Who we are

At Beyond The Wound, our purpose is to provide a launching pad for those working their way through religious trauma. We are here to help at any stage of the process, whether you are recovering from, currently experiencing, or just discovering the effects of toxic theology in your life.

We are here to help people of all persuasions feel safe as they travel their journey and find connections to resources for further study, healing, and community.

We offer a refuge where you can come as you are; be seen, heard, and welcomed without shame, learn new tools for your “Recovery Toolbox”, make healthy connections to support you along the way, and find resources to further help you on your journey.

FAQs

What is religious trauma?

We go into a deeper explanation of this in week 1 of the conference, but the Religious Trauma Institute and Reclamation Collective have offered the following definitions of Religious Trauma and Adverse Religious Experiences.

Religious Trauma: The physical, emotional, or psychological response to religious beliefs, practices, or structures that is experienced by an individual as overwhelming or disruptive and has lasting adverse effects on a person’s physical, mental, social, emotional, or spiritual well-being.

Adverse Religious Experience: any experience of a religious belief, practice, or structure that undermines an individual’s sense of safety or autonomy and/or negatively impacts their physical, social, emotional, relational, or psychological well-being.

What makes this conference different from other conferences?

The major difference between our conferences and others is that we are bridging the gap between clinical and personal resources. Our goal is not to rehash your trauma or offer only one way to heal. We want to introduce you to amazing people who are already helping people heal from toxic theology and to empower you to connect with the community that fits your needs.

I am a professional looking for information on religious trauma. Is this the right conference for me?

While our conference is a compilation of amazing resources, it is targeted at supporting the individual. The Religious Trauma Institute and The Reclamation Collective are fantastic resources for professionals looking for resources. You can find them at Religious Trauma Institute , Reclamation Collective.
